About The Visit

Surrounded by historical and natural parkland the original building dates from 1522 though there was a settlement before. The guided tour of the house takes people back through time architecturally.  The most modern part is the Edwardian billiard room which is available for hire.  This connects to the Victorian dining room with beautiful venetian style windows.  The tour then moves to the Georgian wing with an impressive bay window which overlooks Brading Haven and the Solent and on a fine day Goodwood racecourse pavilion can be seen.  The library offers a beautiful Florentine plaster ceiling along with the original Georgian bookcases.

The tour then goes to the Jacobean part of the house which is where Sir John Oglander entertained King Charles 1st for which was possibly the Kings last night out of prison and freedom.  There are five acres of tranquil garden including a 18th century walled garden, lavender steps and mature borders.
